The Association of Nigerian Geographers, wishes to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of one of our esteemed members, General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff, who left us on Tuesday night, 5th November 2024, at the age of 56 after a brief illness. His loss is a tremendous blow to us as an association and to the nation he served so selflessly.

General Taoreed Lagbaja was more than a decorated officer and a patriotic leader; he was one of us—a trained geographer who passionately identified with our association and shared in our mission to advance the field of geography in service to society. His illustrious career and unyielding dedication to excellence were a testament to the values he embodied, both in the military and beyond.

As we mourn this profound loss, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Nigerian Army, and the entire nation. General Lagbaja’s legacy of service, discipline, and integrity will remain indelible in our hearts and in the history of our association.

He will not be forgotten.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
